Any recomendations? 15 Years, 1 Month ago Karma: 0
I'm heading to Japan start of November and i'll be based in Tokyo.

Any one got anything they would recommend I get up to while there? Although I can speak a little Japanese, best to treat me as having none when making suggestions

Current things i'm considering :-

1 day organised tour of Tokyo (mainly so I can spot anything of major interest to me and come back myself another day. It also includes a Tea ceremony, something i'd probably have trouble finding solo

Day trip to Mt Fuji

Day trip to Kyoto (not sure this will be worth it)

Dinner cruise (An evening at the weekend, I tend not to get out much at night so figure something like this will take the mystery out of things)

I also tend to spend around 3 days at Tokyo Disneyland.

That leaves a good week remaining so please give me some tips

Thanks,

Yak

Kyoto is awesome.. but traveling to and from in one day wont leave a lot of time for seeing all the good stuff there (lots of temples, shrines and old stuff).

Tokyo Disney.. 3 days.. really an American cultural experience.. I would can it and spend time seeing Japan! (Maybe more of Kyoto!)

I go to Disneyland as it's really the only theme park I get a chance to go to in general (never have time to go to ones in the UK) and I suppose its really my backup event, I know where it is, I know I can enjoy myself there. But you are right, it's easy to can the visist if I find something else Hence this post for ideas

Kyoto isn't really an extended option this time as i've already paid for my hotel in Tokyo and being Scottish the thought of not spending a night in a hotel i've paid for...*shudders*, but you've kind of reinforced the point that it might just be a waste of money going for the single day.

So still open for feedback and advice

Give Disney a miss (most visited theme park in the world - last time I went the wait for EACH ride was 2.5 hours!).
Go to FujiQ Highlander instead.
Awesome place and Fuji is the backdrop.
You want to save some Scottish pounds.. don't waste time and money going to Kyoto for a day.
Go for 2-3 days at least or don't go.

What kind of visa are you on? If you're on a tourist visa, read on.
You can purchase (outside of Japan, NOT inside) a Japan Rail pass for 7, 14 or 21 days. This allows you free, unlimited access to Bullet trains, buses, trains, and ferries run by JR for the duration of the ticket you bought. My father visited Japan and got around $3500 worth of travel for a tenth of that price, he went EVERYWHERE! If you're on any other kind of visa forget about it.
Your travel agent can tell you more.

Good idea from gbh!
It will cost less than a return ticket Tokyo to Kyoto.
