sword: unless the sword is classified as national treasure, you should be fine. The question is more over on the landing country, as swords get classified as weapons(surprise!) and I was told that unless it was shipped as antiquity with papers to go along with it, they would confiscate it, but that is Canada.

And if I know few sentences and few kanji letters? (I know Hiragana and Katakana). Overall I can say I know 10% of Japanese... =\ (I'm still learning)

And can you say how approx. percentage of Japanese you should know? (I thought about knowing 30% of Japanese).

I have to agree with Otakasan when it comes to bringing things back to Canada. Our import laws are rather sticky with anything considered a weapon. You can't even import certain knives from the States because of the restrictions we have.

Edit: Between you and me, it's something I've thought about too and this information made me rather sad when I found out about it.

The Swords are expensive if you are after real ones. If you have the cash make sure you can bring them back and make sure you declare it when u go back into customs. Bringing weapons on a plane is a big no no so do it all by the book.

As for places to visit make sure you have some downtime. There are so many things to see almost any place you go in Japan. I would say stick to Tokyo as a hub and go to other places for a few nights. I did Hiroshima, Kyoto Hakuba and Tokyo and over about 3 weeks.

The best place I went to was by far Fuji-Q Highland. It has some of the best roller coasters in the world. It is a bit tricky to get to but.. take a buss from Tokyo.

O stay in a capsule hotel .. just for one night its not the best but it is an experience lol

I'll be staying for 2 weeks in Tokyo, Japan and I'm afraid I just can't go out there because they might just don't understand me.
