Also i HIGHLY recommend Nikko, Especially if you like to vist the Shrines and Temples. I can't remember exactly how to get there but you have to make a few train connections, but i highly recommend it. It will take about 4 hours maximum from Tokyo

If i can recommend a place i suggest staying at Fu Sha cottage. It was a very unique experience to stay in a traditional small Japanese Cottage and the landlady was exceptionally nice and made our stay all the more brilliant.

I think that 11 days is a good about of time to visit a country of Japan. It allows you to enjoy seeing all the things Japan as to offer, without having to rush though your vacation. I can only go for a weekend because I am going to come there from Thailand. So I'll have to make a few separate trips there in order to see it all of the attractions I have in mind.

I believe you are selected for the JENESYS programme?

If you are, dont worry. There's a guide tour your around. And, you dont have much time shopping/travel around on your own will.

Before you leave your home country.... get a Shinkansen ticket (for bullet train)

You can take day trips to Kyoto , Osaka, Kobe, Himeji, Okayama, Hiroshima ( and the ferry to Miyajima Island is included)

All are a commute from tokyo OR base yourself in Osaka for a few days and commute from there.

Getting a travel voucher from the Japanese embassy BEFORE you leave home will save you a packet and a half !
