New Residency Card changes 12 Years, 5 Months ago Karma: 1
Can anyone explain what exactly the changes in residency card requirements effective July 9? I just received my 1 year visa and heard that the "gaijin card" is no longer being issued. However the paperwork I received says I have to apply for a "residency card." What's the difference?

Also, how long do I have before I have to show up at immigration to apply for the card and health insurance. I will be traveling around for about 4 weeks before I actually get to the city where I will be staying "permanently."

Last question. I have a cultural visa and will not be earning income. Does anyone know approximately how much the health insurance premium will cost?

Just keep your gaijin card details up to date and the city you are registered in should send you the paper for the new system.
(Same crap but just doesn't call you an alien - political correctness, basically )

I believe the health insurance is free if you earn no income.
