Yeah i'd say it would be. It does seem like a tricky situation, i don't really know what to offer anymore regarding the situation but to go back to the immigration office again and discuss it. It does seem a little strange that they won't just switch your visa to a simple visa like temporary visitor even after you finish your internship. But then again, i wouldn't know anything about their procedures or systems of how they work these types of things internally. As you said, asking again won't make the current situation worse so by doing so will only make the situation either the same or better.
