question here , what is a person is a permanent resident , he is married maybe has a child, and has worked there for let say 20 or so years and the stop working, will he loose he residency because he is not working anymore , because heard that even if you are a permanent resident you can still loose it , because that would scare me living there for ages then becoming old then japan does not need you becaue you lost your job

No, I think when you have PR the income thing is not important.
(Men are expected to provide for their families here, though. The inlaws might give you grief if you don't )

Actually you can lose your permanent residency if they deem that you are not following the laws. If you lose your job and don't have enough income to clear your taxes and all, they can take it away.


As for "citizenship".. it's not a word any foreigner should ever dream of in this country. You will NEVER be Japanese. I know a lawyer that stayed here 20 years, speaks completely fluent Japanese (and I mean seriously.. the guy knew more kanji than most Japanese too) and asked for his "citizenship". He even went to court with this case after being refused and guess what? The court denied it still even though he had totally great arguments.

Let's just say that unless you are Lady Gaga or Bill Gates and suddenly decide you want to be of Japanese citizenship, they won't allow it because you bring "nothing" to this country. And even then I still have doubts that either of them could get it...

Hi, i hope i don't sound too crude with my words even though i am new here.

So from what i have read in the threads about citizenship, unless one is like a filthy rich oil tycoon or has some extremely rare unique special powerful raw skill like a world class football player, a mozart/beethovan level musician or someone as brainy as the maker of Linux, Linus Torvalds, it is virtually impossible to be an acquired citizen by their law?

I also read in one of the posts not sure which thread that apparently even if the foreigner was a trained elite class lawyer and a superbly fluent Japanese speaker who understood kanji better than a normal japanese, he still can't qualify. So its like as in, the policy is still no foreigners allowed as citizens?

Resident... yes.
Citizen... hard! Hardly no foreginers have managed that, and that's because they BRING something to the country.
