So, I really don't see them on any Japanese people or television I see. How do people feel about facial hair there?

I myself have a goatee, very neatly trimmed and im fond of it.

I happen to have a mustache and chin beard as do several of my neighbors where I live in Yamagata prefecture Okitama region. You won?t see a lot of facial hair in Japan, but many of the college instructors or poets do have facial hair. Since I have an English style mustache the curls up I do get a few looks mostly for children and young girls. As in many cultures facial hair used to be acceptable in Japan and many samurai sported mustaches. I believe facial hair is making a come back in Japan as it did in America. NASA started the clean-shaven short haircuts in the 50?s and it has taken 40 years for that period to end. Japan may take a little longer to make the change back.

A person without a mustache looks more cleanly than a person with a mustache.It is important that people on television is clean.I believe this is why people on television shave mustaches.

I think so too.
But some entertainers wear a mustache like putting on some accessories.
