Skirt alert! crossing the line? 14 Years, 2 Months ago Karma: 0
I was just wondering how much of a taboo it is for guys to wear skirts in Japan.

Thing is I'm a occasional crossdresser and I'll stay roughly one month in Tokyo next year. Is it "OK" or just a bad bad idea to wear girls clothes in public even though you'r a guy?

No I'm asking if it's accepted or not. Will people think I'm a freak? Or is it like where I live that most are oblivious or just curiusly bemused as long as it "looks" OK on the guy wearing it?
I'm a bit concerned because I'll be living as a member of a japanese family. Will my alternate clothes destroy my relaition with my hosts?

Why I wear skirts? Mostly it's just a fashion statement. I say mostly because I bet there's something more to it but I can't be more specific than that. I like how it looks, and it's comfortable to wear. I'm not dressing in "draag" or trying to look like a girl (no makeup etc.), usually it's just a skirt, kneesocks, t-shirt and a hat.

Even if they dont accept it, they wont say anythink. They just dont want to upset you! Similar as Tatto post once again watch it! You shouldnt worry about japanese people, theyre very polite.

In downtown Tokyo, you might actually look cool or normal. Other places? Well, imagine going into a church like that in a Southern US State...

Overall, they certainly won't look more than 1/1,000th of a second, and never say anything to you.

Super polite to the extreme. Really. Don't worry. I've actually considered walking naked, just to see if someone will look at me in public for once.

umm i think everyone would stare you...and you'll draw more attention than you wanted. You should be appropriately dressed otherwise you might have problems with the police. Anyway good luck! Write more about your experience.
