Here's an extra tidbit of information that you might find useful. The reason why most East Asian countries (Not exclusive to Japan for that matter) use name stamps instead of signing directly is because Kanji is very easy to forge. A single stroke or dot can change a character completely, which is why stamping a fixed name is a requirement for official documents.
