Yeah, it does seem strange that they use English in the media to be cool but don't realize (or maybe care) that they are often using the wrong words and embarrassing themselves.
The whole "gurupu" (group) and "memba" (member) thing has been driving me nuts!!
Sometimes it is used correctly but it is OVERUSED!
Sports team "memba" .. really??
When we would usually say "player" Japanese insist on referring to team "memba".
TV shows with the obligatory 20-30 "talent" refer to those people as "memba".
It obviously appeals to the Japanese sense of membership of groups of all descriptions.
And what is what TV "C.M"s (commercials) constantly referring to "campaigns".
The only country I know where the damn companies constantly tell us we are listening to the details of their latest "campaign".
One more: "smart" when they use it to mean "slim".
God knows where they got that one from!!
