Q: Can trying 3 separate Japanese language tools (Rosetta Stone, Pimsleur, and Japanese Coach DS) negatively affect my learning ability?

Hey there

In what way do you think it might affect it negatively? Having multiple sources is always better than having one or even none.

I do think the type of sources is a good factor, example being I always recommend someone to undertake classes, preferably with a native Japanese teacher. Why? Because you will get better insight into the pronounciations of how they really should be & you also have the experience of being teached by a Native Japanese person. Also I think classes are good motivation rather than self study.

( one example my teacher said was going to the Hospital if you were in a Taxi. 'Byouin' means hospital and 'Biyouin' means Hairdressers. They sound almost exactly alike but with Byouin you exaggerate the Byou. Imagine you got into the Taxi, very sick and you accidently pronounced Hairdressers instead of Hospital? )

Ill be taking classes up again come October but in the mean time Im using workbooks from previous classes and also using Michel Thomas Japanese as a supplementary tool.

I think what you're doing is fine, even if you do plan on going to classes, the previous learning from what you're doing now will help in improving your learning of Japanese.

Best of luck
