There's a set of ... cassettes that come with, since the book are smack full of hearing exercises. Dunno if the workbooks have them but my teacher uses them and her "teachers book" has at least three per book. . .

There's a book series called "remembering the kanji" that focuses mainly on remebering the symbols by association.
Furthermore it's easier to learn if you write them and not just look at them as I made the mistake of doing at first XD
In addition to that you should also remember when you are writing characters that you are "writing" and not "drawing". ( a tip from my teacher)

Great book for Kanji! I used 'Japanese from Zero' books to help me learn Katakana and Hiragana, since they teach you gradually throughout completing the work books, as well as grammar and basic Japanese. Their a great start. I use smart.fm too for mastering (as they call it) both Kanas. I am only just learning Kanji, and at the moment I find it fun, when I notice Kanji that I recognise!
