Naturally I know that watching anime ot other (WHEN YOU HAVE ALREADY LEARNED THE LANGUAGE TO SOME DEGREE) may be useful for HEARING EXCERCISE but not to ACTUALLY LEARN THE LANGUAGE.
Which is what i meant in my comment.
Thanks~~
Sorry-- yes, I agree. I think I was assuming OP would use animes after spending a good deal of time studying from books/with fluent speakers. Visual media is a supplementary tool at best. Apart from very repetitive phrases (such as 'honto' 'sugoi' and 'sou [da|desu] [ne|na|ka]' ) very little can be picked up. Since we're not kids anymore, we can't spend 2 or 3 years passively listening to a language to pick it up (that, and the translations are often interpretive, and rarely literal).
But I still don't agree that animes won't help you learn the language, since you're still learning until you know every word of said language (which is, of course, impossible to do). You'll invariably pick up on subject matter teachers and books are unwilling to cover (which may be, for instance, taboo or impolite, but which you would have to know to be fluent anyway).
