one thing you should know is that chinese is a much more widespread language,and you would in fact have much more use of it if you travel around in asia.
many of the asian countries have chinese as a secound language.

consider this if you looking for a useful language. but if your choise is about wich culture you want to get involved in, I would personaly go for japanese.

why not learn them both ?~~~ Chinese character is the subset of Japanese one. It mean if u learnt Japanese kanji, u will you will be able to read Chinese character.
