So, for the past little while I have been practicing Hiragana, and I would like to test myself. Trouble is I am finding it difficult to find things written in Hiragana exclusively (and I don't know any Katakana) so I have a tiny request.

If someone could just write me a small passage of text in nothing but hiragana, which I can then translate into Romaji, and then if you can provide me with any corrections, I would appreciate it.

Worth mentioning that while I can write out hiragana and (I think) I can remember them quite well, I haven't actually 'learned' any Japanese words or sentences- I only know a few words here and there.

I was thinking of moving on to that when I get up to speed on the kana. I'm hoping this will make it easier for me to learn in the long run.

Hmm, it seems that certain hiragana are completly different when typed. For example, in the version you have given me, 'Sa' looks like a backwards 'chi' symbol, while in the book I'm using ("Easy Kana Workbook" it is given as a 'Ki' symbol without the lower line, and then later on as the reverse 'Chi' you used!

And they have the cheek to say "THE CHARACTERS SHOULD BE WRITTEN AS SHOWN!"...

Sleepy, i completely understand what you are trying to say. Sometimes, some of the characters in text do have a line missing or whatever, like as you said you have seen 'Sa' written like a 'ki' with a lower line missing.

This just entirely depends on the text you are reading, in Japan or any Japanese literature they may have or you get may use the full character or have as what you have noticed 'a missing line' or whatever throughout the character.

Nothing much can be done about it since it comes down to whichever book seems to do this, id try learn the characters as a full so if you do come across text where the character has a line or so missing that you will be able to recognise it.

Those are just the two ways of writing the letter "sa." It's the same with "ki," it can be written either like a backwards "chi" with an extra line, or the way that I believe you are familiar with.
I like to think it like the letter "a." You know how normally, the letter a is written like a little "o" with a line on the side by hand? But on the computer, with certain fonts, the letter "a" is written differently.
