They walk ahead of you into a restaurant and let the door close in your face
They have no idea how to treat girls and behave like 14 year old boys (even old guys behave like 14 year olds when girls are around).
Some of them look cool and some a pretty handsome.. but, really, they have no idea!!

Re:Japanese guys.. 15 Years ago Karma: 1
I've dated more japanese guys than western guys, and would do it again.
I didn't even notice the door thing or walking infront of thing until people mentioned it. That really doesn't bother me at all though. When I'm visiting family in the states and a guy holds the door or pulls out a chair I feel awkward actually.

The hardest part of dating japanese guys in my experience is trying to figure out whether or not they like you. They won't usually outright say it and sometimes they will act completely uninterested (as in, seem BORED the whole date) even if they are. I've had a handful of dates where I thought the guy wasn't interested but later was told by a friend that he WAS interested and thought I was the one who wasn't interested. More recently I dated a japanese guy who has lived in 2 western countries and has more western friends than japanese, he is still very japanese in some ways but not in others. We dated for awhile but I thought he was only interested as friends. A few months later we got drunk and slept together "as friends" and he said to me "I thought you weren't interested in me because I gave you the look and you didn't give any response." Some of my other western friends have also heard of japanese guys giving a "look" when they like you but we have no idea what it is.

Once I get to the actual boyfriend part the most frustrating thing is the lack of "closeness" in a western sense, I feel this same problem with japanese friends as well. Japanese people generally just don't have the deep and personal conversations that western friends and couples have (and they find it very impolite to ask or be asked). Not knowing very much about my boyfriends past, family, and life outside of me is really very difficult because I feel like I need to know this to be able to trust them and feel close. So my japanese friendships are always more distant to me.

Like every country there are alot of asshole guys and a few good guys, japan is no exception. I know some great japanese guys and some foreign girls who are very happy in their marriages and relationships to japanese guys. So they're not all bad. However myself and my friends who date japanese guys exclusively don't really like dating foreign guys. With western guys I feel like I have to be around them every waking moment and can't live my own life without having to tell them every little detail and I find the constant affection annoying. So I actually like the aloofness of japanese guys and the fact that I can have a boyfriend and still live my own life. Though sometimes japanese guys are too much on the other extreme of western guys. If you are happy with foreign guys then I don't think you would be happy with japanese guys. It's just so different.

Awesome!

I agree with all that 100%!
You made some excellent points..
People who need a very close relationship would probably not be satisfied with a Japanese guy (maybe)..
also.. the trust thing is always an issue.

In some ways, I think Japanese relationships are more mature than western ones.. in other ways, maybe not so much.

Thank you so much for your comment!
