I started to read this whole thread before I posted but I really got bored haha! not saying any of you are boring just short attention span! I am going into college and Minoring in Japanese I hope to spend a good amount of time in Japan in the future! and I would love to have a few Japanese friends, boy or girls. My japanese is very very limited at the moment but with my japanese major I hope to be learning more soon thanks for all your kinds responses

Hi, I am a 26 year old guy from America. I am very interested in Japanese people and their culture. I am interested in finding some Japanese friends to speak with. I am happy to teach any Japanese person English as well. A bit of my background: I have a Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering. I enjoy many sports. I love any kind of competition. I like talking to people from different parts of the world. Some of my ethnic background is Italian, French, German, and small bits of others as well.

Also I speak very limited Japanese. I understand sentence structure pretty well. I just haven't learned a ton of words yet, but I do know a good amount of verbs.

I can see this thread is dead and has been for at least 2 months. After reading all of the comments made here it's more a 'Japanese woman wanted' ad thread than finding a kind of 'penpal' like the title suggested.

Ok, about me. I'm a 23yr old woman from California, USA. I've been interested in Japan since at least 5yrs old. Having extremely little on hand I had the 'fantasy land' image until the last 5yrs when I got a laptop with internet. After that I was able to watch JDramas, Japanese concerts, Japanese news, listen to Japanese music, do research on some Japanese history, etc. I was also amazed at how quickly I picked up the basics of the language by watching the JDramas with English subtitles (I am SO a NOVICE!!!) and have been working on trying to learn even more of the language through Rosetta Stone.

I've never been good at learning another language so I'm very slow at it and need patience but I'm diligent and hard working. I would be willing to share the English language as well. I would prefer them to be authentic Japanese and no minors as problems always seem to arise so 18 and up please! (no, not trolling. I'm just not going to be accused as a pedophile)

Since the majority of "Japanese friends" seekers are male, it's natural for them to seek mainly female companionship.

To be honest, I haven't seen any actual Japanese on this board. It's not exactly the best place to find them.

Instead, I recommend for you to have a look at InterPals (google it). I've used it a while ago and found it extremely easy to find Japanese friends there.

Then what's the point of this thread if there's no Japanese people in general, male or female? I didn't ask for a specific gender, just pointed out this was more a 'Japanese women wanted' ad (which it is and NOT to learn anything Japanese!) rather than trying to get to know someone from Japan.
