Some Money-Saving Tips When Staying In Japan 11 Years, 4 Months ago Karma: 1
These are some tips that can help you save money when living in Japan!
====================
1. Japan can be surprisingly affordable to travel around in. Accommodation in budget inns and business hotels ranges from as little as ¥3,000 to ¥6,000 a night.

2. Some department stores (usually in major cities) offer a 5% discount to foreign visitors, so it's worth asking.

3. Look for lunch specials when at restraunts, they can be as cheap as ¥600. Fast food joints have sets for as little as ¥350.

4. Drinks at music clubs are sometimes included in the ticket.

5. Tipping waiters at restraunts is almost non-existent in Japan. This will save you a lot of money in the long-run.

6. Many cinemas offer half-price tickets on the first Monday of every month. Also many cinemas have "Women's Day Tickets" on Wednesday which are also half-price.

7. Book your hotel reservations online, preferably from a Japanese site in Japanese

8. Don't purchase a meal plan with your hotel reservations. You can find much more affordable food elsewhere.

9. Make sure your place of residence is located near a convenience store (or even better, a super market), unless you want to travel long distances for every meal.

10. Overnight buses are one of the cheapest ways to travel around Japan, if you don't mind sleeping on them.

11. Only get a Japan Rail Pass if you plan on traveling to multiple regions, otherwise find an inter-city transportation system as they are cheaper.

12. If you are planning on living in Japan, buying a car and driving can save you a lot of money in the long-run.

13. Bicycling is a very economical way of traveling around medium-sized cities. You can rent one for ¥500 to ¥1000 a day if you are staying for 1 to 2 weeks, but it is cheaper to just buy one if you are staying longer.

14. There are many popular sightseeing attractions that have free admission, or discounts for foreigners.

15. Look for ¥100 Shops, they carry many household necessities as well as souvenirs.
