Hi!

I'm going to Japan as an exchange student in August, and I thought I'd buy a few things for my host family.

So I have a question: Is it OK to give gifts to Japanese people without informing them in advance?

Here in Norway where I live, people usually want to know in advance so that they can buy something too.

If you're stuck for gift ideas try bringing something from your home country. Flags, items only made in your country, also if you can bring snacks that are individually packaged like candies or something they like to share some with their neighbors and friends.

Thanks for the advice! I'll buy some hard candy and maybe some chocolate and licorice. Is that popular in Japan? I have a fealing it isn't

I bought this book for the two children in the family. A boy aged 8 and a girl aged 5. Trolls originated from Norwegian mythology, and is a big part of our national identity. Trolls are the best-selling souvernirs from Norway.
