Tatami floors 13 Years, 4 Months ago Karma: 0
Hello everyone,

I recently bought an appartment (will be finished in november) which means I can't travel to Japan this year

However, because I am allowed to spend money from my mortgage on floors, I was thinking of bringing some Japanese atmosphere to my appartment.

What I deceided is to make my bedroom in Japanese style. This means sliding doors, Futons to sleep on etc. etc.

However I do have some questions concerning Tatami mats. The problem isn't buying them. However I wonder how to lay them and stuff.
What I like to know is:
- What lies under a tatami floor? should I isolate?
- Does a tatami floor counts as a hard of a soft floor?
- What thickness should the mats have?
- Any other tips/trics you guys can come up with

Offcourse other tips concerning decorating the room are much appreciated.
