The "American Channel" for Japanese Tourists? 13 Years, 9 Months ago Karma: 0
Aloha,

After watching all the great videos on TheJapanChannel I couldn't help but think about what a channel for Japanese tourists visiting the US would be like...

Based on what I know, they'd need to be warned about the rude manners, crime, dirty conditions, poor service, and disrespectful ways of folks in the US. Other things that might really confuse them are the giant portions of food, a 4000 square ft. house, and the need for 3 Starbucks on every corner.

Has anyone ever seen anything like this? It would be in Japanese I guess...

I'm not sure about the other parts of the US Mainland but I do know that approximately 1.5 million Japanese visit Hawaii every year. You see them everywhere in Honolulu on guided tours. I live on the island of Kauai and not many Japanese tourists come here.
I guess by coming on a tour they have less issues with the language and us boorish Americans.

somehow...Hawaii is not like a part from the US in my mind...even the locals aren't Americans...they have darker skin and even their language is Hawaiian....so to me Hawaii is not like America...although Hawaiian islands belong to Americans it's more like a colony...here's what i learned:

"Hawaii was a destination for American and European businesses as the soil and climate was perfect to grow fruit and sugarcane. These businesses had large plantations.

Hawaii had been an independent monarchy but to protect and expand their business interests a coup was carried out by forces backed by US businesses and the US military. The monarchy was replaced and political control over the island passed into the hands of powerful business empires of the US.

In 1900 Hawaii become an official territory of US and in 1959 it was made the 50th state of the US."
