US Military in Japan 13 Years, 11 Months ago Karma: 1
Hello. My husband is in the military and we both plan on going to Japan as one of our stations. Are there any other military folk in Japan that has any advice for us from housing arrangements to learning the language to just being able to get around without the language barrier? I know living like a Sailor is different from a civilian so I would prefer an answer from a military person unless you have really good info I can go by. Anything is great. Thanks.

was there as a single guy but yes..you'll have a laison officer/office you can talk to...there should also be workshops/bebriefings on the local culture and "how to" do stuff there as well....i had a week long indoc session but my bud who was married got one slightly longer as he attend some that involved his wife/kiddies as well. If you have orders cut already the contact/a copy of the orders info should be on them ( number etc) and perhaps if they still do it the contact info of your sponsor there as well.
Good luck and i hope you enjoy the experience^.^
P.S= Don't worry if your wandering around with a phrase book in hand--i did that the first 3 months or so easily--people i dealt with were friendly..nice..and waited patiently as i flipped through a book looking for the right phrese/word..or spoke in pigeon japanese...again good luck and have fun=D
