I am currently a student in the US with years of experience with foreign languages as well as philosophy, psychology, economics, and the major branches of academia.

From all of the videos I have seen about Japan from culture, lifestyle, trends, and scholastic environments...there does not seem to be a open offering for an independent thinking person as myself.

My research has suggested that several major universities (Kyoto, Toyo, and perhaps Tokyo University) do offer philosophy programs, even though it is not openly pursued in common culture.

Recently, I had the great opportunity to purchase several books on Japanese culture, language, spirituality, among other topics. It seems that there is a far greater wealth of history, culture, and deep-rooted views on the world than I had known before (these being held by Japanese people for quite a long time).

If there is anyone who could offer some insight to concerns I have with regard to studying in Japan and perhaps even living there with my personality and academics in mind, I would be greatly appreciated.

Is it "impossible" to observe Japanese culture, customs, and traditions and still study Western Philosophy?

What kind of opportunities might someone in my circumstance be offered when looking to study or even teach in Japan?

Would it be possible for myself to offer the knowledge I have accumulated over the years, while still observing a Japanese lifestyle, and be myself without seeming arrogent, childish, selfish, or be pushed away by the majority of Japanese society?
