Although while i was there i remember a Japanese person telling me (or some other reference) that Baseball is/has taken to become more Popular in the country than Sumo. I don't really know for sure as i wasn't there for a prolonged period of time to say whether myself it was true or not, but i did notice that Baseball does have a big influence over in Japan. They seem to follow the American leagues closely as well since some Japanese players are playing for these American teams, one player in particular who seems to be really popular is Ichiro Suzuki (almost anytime baseball was on they were showing games with the Seattle Mariners, the team he plays for)
Although i completely agree with you, budo would be the most popular over all, i mean't to state it as foreign sports that Baseball would be the most popular in Japan
