Japanese Politics and Foreigners? 14 Years, 10 Months ago Karma: 0
Hello, I only recently discovered the Japan Channel on youtube, but I've spent most of my free time over the past two days looking at your videos! I'm especially impressed by the huge variety of coverage. Thank you very much!

Now, on with the topic. I'm interested in moving to Japan in a couple of years and considering moving permenantly.

I'm pretty interested in Politics, but I'm not very clear on the Japanese politics, especially for foreigners.

I have heard from some people that foreigners aren't even allowed to vote, but seeing as there is a Finnish person in the government I don't know how that can possible. So, does anyone know the voting rights of foreigners in Japan?

Also, what is the Japanese attitude to politics? And are the Japanese parties combative and go into 'party politics' or do they generally co-operate and try to reach the best solution?

I apologise if all this has been asked already- I did a search but nothing came up.

Hi.

I'm not the guy who makes the videos as you know, but I am subscribed to him. But anyway, heres my observation...

Yes I have heard about the rule of foreigners not able to vote in Japan either you are on a Visa or attempting a 5-10 year stay to make a Japanese Citizenship or either that you have a Japanese Citizenship. I am really not sure on how the Japanese laws roll with the Foreigners. I don't know about now, but you may never know that the rules may change however but we'll see how it goes.

The Japanese Politics I don't know about, but like UK, Australia, NZ, etc. They have Prime Ministers and other sorts of things, like an adaption.

You should be able to look up 'Japan Foreign Affairs' on Google because I have been on the website and it should be able to answer your question.

I want to live in Japan too but I still got a LONG way to go!
