General Visa 16 Years, 5 Months ago Karma: 22  
A General Visa is usually issued for people coming to Japan to stay for the following reasons:

Cultural Activities
College Student
Precollege Student
Trainee
Dependent

To answer the question, these visa are usually for 1, 2 or 5 years depending on the situation.
