I will be in Japan for 8 weeks this summer for an intensive study abroad. I was wondering, would it be "weird" if I were to just go for a run around town? I would like to keep up my running habits and 8 weeks is a long time for me not to run. Anyone in Japan have an answer on this? Are there specific places besides a gym that I could run if running around town is socially "weird?" Maybe like parks and what not?

Thanks!

A good plan is to do things when and where Japanese people do them

Go for a walk in some parks.. if you see Japanese people running there.. you can assume it is cool

(Running around the sidewalks is not real cool here )

Depending on what area you are in. when i was at the Imperial Palace I saw lots of people doing timed runs around the grounds there.
also while in Kyoto I saw people training for marathons running in the street and then stopping at a local noodle shop after they were done. don;t know if that helps good luck.
