I am a university student in Belgium, and I am very interested in going to Japan later in my life. I don't know what I'm going to do, even if it's just going there for the holidays each year, or actually living there, but I know that I will spent time in Japan.

I've always wanted to do a Japanese martial art, but for one unknown reason I have never put myself into it. I want to change that.

After 2 months of reading, I decided I wanted to give Kyudo a try. I like how Kyudo is a very mental martial art, and the elegance of it amazes me.

I was wondering if anyone here could share some information with me? I'm just thrilled to learn more about Kyudo.

The thrive for "Truth, Goodwill & Beaty", the formal introduction of one self when entering the room, the unmeasurable amount of concentration & focus... I love it!

Do you have kyudo schools in Belgium?

Coming here with no martial arts experience and asking to join a school.. is difficult..

Better to start something there first..

If there is no kyudo.. you might want to look at aikido..

Yeah there are a few schools, and ofcourse I won't go to Japan without any knowledge of any martial art in the first place. ^^

Knowing that I'm 19 and haven't done any other martial art, my chances are low of even being able to join a Kyudojo there, should I decide to live in Japan.

I've already tried to contact a few Kyudojos over the past month but I haven't had a single reply / answered call. When I drop by they're also closed or "Occupied". So I couldn't ask for any info


But I want to have at least a few years of experience (I was thinking around 8) until I would try to join a Kyudojo in Japan. So I figured: the sooner I start, the better.

Thanks for the reply, I'll keep the Aikido thing in my mind for when I don't get any replies for the Kyudo.
