So my husband and I were talking about things last night while eating dinner and the subject of what is considered gross or weird in Japan came up.

We were drinking Rootbeer and my husband said that a majority of Japanese don't like it cause it reminds them of the taste of medicine - Does anyone know if this is true? I have also heard that peanut butter is hard to come by in Japan...

Does anyone know of other western food/drink that are considered gross by the Japanese - maybe that they don't even have a market for it?

I am English, so the "rootbeer" sounds like something that loosens a person's morals

But peanut butter is easy to get here.

Hahahaha - Rootbeer is just a soda pop - it contains no alcohol at all. Well, what is commercially available anyway. I have heard that if you make it in your home with a kit there will end up being a slight amount of alcohol to it LOL. But that's just what I've heard...

hahaha I laighed a lot when I read the comment about root beer. I actually know that this is not a Japanese thing only. Most people who are not accostumed to root beer, have the exact same reaction to it, so I wouldn't be surprised that this includes the Japanese.

I must confess I do not like that flavor either and that it does remind me of medicine too. ^________^
