Japanese TV has to be seen to be believed!
The first thing we notice is just about everyone is subtitled in Japanese even though they are speaking Japanese!
I guess this is to make sure people dont miss what is being said.
The subtitles are usually colour coordinated with what is being said..
If a girl talks usually the subtitles are pink with hearts and cute bits..
If the person is angry (or pretending to be) it will be red writting with lots of !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.
They also love sound effects.. which seem to be to augment what is being said or done on the screen...
They also love "comment"..
Very very common for their shows to have an in-studio group of "talent" who sit and watch what we are watching and make expressions, sounds and comments appropriate to what is happening.
"AHHHHH" "EHHHHHHHH???????"
"SUGOI!!!" (Excellent!)
and so on..
Usually we can see them in a small box in the corner of the screen.
Girls are, more often than not, blatently just treated as sex objects to varying degrees.
