Shodo is the traditional Japanese art of calligraphy.
It is practiced by a wide range of people and can be done in small size with a fine brush but is sometimes done with a brush the size of a domestic mop on large pieces of paper!

just found your people's links , forum , movies etc, on the net while looking up some travel info about japan. (great job on all that)

So this calligraphy , they actually have school to learn you all this ? Or is this more a forgotten art?
The thing they write down , does it has to be a special word?
I have seen a movie where the write some sign or letter on a paper and then stick it to someones forehead...
(some curse or protection '^_^ ?)

What if i made something like that , would the "masters" be able to see my great gaijin hand in it?

(i can't paint at all...)

They treat it like a martial art in Japan..
schools and teachers for it..

but you can get books on the subject and try it yourself if you want to..
