Hi, so I'm from America, and I've just decided that I'd be going to Japan for at least in week during the Christmas break. Now, I realized there is a ridiculous amount of planning involved.

One thing I really want is to be able to navigate and see on a map where I am currently. I contemplated buying an international data plan ($25 for 20 M for use on my iphone with GMaps. I've done some research for GPS devices where you can just download a Japanese map, but for some reason, I am unable to find a manufacturer here that has this functionality.

Does anyone have some suggestions?

Also, would anyone know of any good/cheap hostels around Tokyo?

Lots of awesome GPS in Japan but most in Japanese unless you go to the electronics district in Tokyo.

Ok so I researched this about two weeks ago because I did not want to pay for a data plan. I bout an unlocked HTC Jade which also has windows 6.5 on it, anyways I put Garmin XT on it and the I got Japan Maps in English. If you have a windows mobile device with built in GPS I could send you the files for it, including an unlocked Japan Map in english!
