first time in Japan staying 1 month 14 Years, 1 Month ago Karma: 0
OK this is my first topic here, Im surprised I havent started a profile here since I have been watching all the YT vids for so long but I guess now is a great time to start. I am leaving for a 1 month stay in Japan. I went with Sakura House for my guest room. If anyone knows anything about them please let me know. I figure I am going to try to visit as many parts of Japan as I can so I bought a Jrail pass to cover most of those costs. Now Im trying to figure out my daily budget and any info on either Ryokans or Onsens that will be friendly to a american with 2 tats. My tattoos are not big or offending and I am trying to come up with a way to cover them up if needed. I just watched the update video on disability in japan and was glad to see it. I use a cane for stabilty and a leg brace for more straining activity. Any help or ideas would be wonderfull to hear. Oh also Im trying to learn some japanese but I am hoping being around it 24/7 will help it to sink in.

Sounds like fun

Yes, definitely hide the tatts...

There is a thread here somewhere about the daily costs...
You could buy 3 simple meals a day for 2,000 yen (very simple).. for 5,000 yen a day you could eat like a king

So Im staying in a guesthouse in Asakusa area. With my rent and rail pass paid for already I am budgeting around 40-55$ a day for food, sightseeing and transportation not with JRail. I know I can get by on most days with alot less but I figure it will average out on the days where I stay in hostles and capsules and the occasional ryokan. Im thinking ryokan might be best for the onsen stuff since I have these 2 tats.
On one hand I am thinking I wish the the next 2 weeks would be over and I can start my trip but on the other hand I feel like time is flying by too fast and I wont be ready, lol.
Hey does anyone know any good spots to see the monkeys who dip in the hot springs, my niece and brother really want some pics among other stuff. Any other good sightseeing ideas would be great.

Always Mt.Fuji, don't neccessarily have to do the climb but the surrounding areas are really scenic and nice. There's Hiroshima and would really recommend seeing the peace memorial museum. Ogimachi village is another place I recommend going to, but it's quite out of the way (we rented a car and drove from Takayama but could be maybe bus services to there?)

Beppu is renowned for it's natural Hotsprings and worth a visit there if you want to try a 100% natural hotspring.

I don't remember anywhere that had the monkeys dipping into the hotsprings, I remember another tourist talking about it when I was there but cannot remember the name. I think he mentioned more North of Japan possibly somewhere in Hokkaido

Since you are not there yet, you can try Hokkaido...to go up skying and than fly imediatly to the south...somewhare in Kyushu...and have a winter and a summer in the same hollyday. Yes, thouse monkeys and hot sproings are from Hokkaido, a queek google search should tell you more.
