I have hardened myself to withstand japanese cuteness, so cuteness are not of concern.

I will look into your answers.

I also grew up in Sweden (I live there) so I know full well about the english. However I am concerned because English holds many similarities to swedish and thus it is easy for swedes to learnt it, Japanese does not.
I watched anime and (tried) to read some simple japanese but if you don't have someone explain it to you learning anything becomes extremely difficult.
Ofcourse it's not my intention to bring you down or anything and you might actually succeed. . . I'm just saying that if you have the option of formal learning, you will better understand what you are listening to.
Thanks~

Anime transcripts: http://animetranscripts.wikispaces.com/
Kanji-to-Romanji translator: http://nihongo.j-talk.com/kanji/

Copy/paste the episode's transcript to the translator, and you can see exactly what they're saying. Better than just listening, you can see the individual words and look up what they mean.

I don't think that watching/listening to anime with subtitles will help you too much. I've been watching anime for two years, and it hasn't advanced my skills in Japanese too much.
It may help with pronunciation. Maybe some greetings.
But, if you're going to learn Japanese, I'd get a well recognized program or a legitimate Japanese tutor.

A friend of mine who learned Japanese said that watching variety shows like talk shows helped him learn because it's conversational Japanese.

I've just started learning Japanese, but I don't find the anime helps me very much (although it's enjoyable to watch). Netflix has a good amount of subtitled anime available if you live in the States.
