Prepare your brain? Like, hit it with something? Or maybe eat tons of sushi so you can learn japanese with less effort? No, nothing like that.
To learn japanese you must really start with basic grammar: the order of words, particles and some basic verb forms. You will learn some basic vocabulary on the track, but what comes next is for you to decide. Either you go with deep study of vocablulary and grammar, or you can watch like tons of anime and japanese video footage to get the hang of some spoken language, and if you're smart enough, get some vocabulary and even grammar knowledge from it.

I am going to join a beginners japanese class next year (if they have room) so the parts you mentioned will be included I'm sure.

I just really wanted to know if listening to japanese T.V shows and music would make it easier to get the 'rythm' of the language?

ty.

If you start watching Japanese Movies & Tv, Listening to Japanese Music and listen to Audio Books they should all help in somewhat programming your brain before you start classes . Should help in retaining the language and listening to the language better

Exposing yourself to a lot of spoken Japanese via things such as Japanese TV/Anime, Music, etc. can help your listening skills as well as improve your speaking fluency as you become more comfortable with the language and how it is spoken.
