I'm not sure about the other parts of the US Mainland but I do know that approximately 1.5 million Japanese visit Hawaii every year. You see them everywhere in Honolulu on guided tours. I live on the island of Kauai and not many Japanese tourists come here. I guess by coming on a tour they have less issues with the language and us boorish Americans.
