I agree with you. Growing up, I was told to not care what others thought of you! In this case you're doing something that's kind of rude in another society. I'm not sure it would bother as much people in the U.S. Sure you'd get stares, but I don't think it'd be as bad as it would be in Japan! The guilt and embarassment would get the better of me.

Recently I found out that some Japanese meet other Japanese trough internet and they all gather somwehere to make a group suicide. It's sad but what they want is to escape from reality and moreover their religion is not against it. As we all know from the history of Japan it was a matter of pride to commit suicide.
Someone who knows more is welcome to share info.

This is so sad and tragic...such a young girl...

It's is not good to be bullied in school...it makes you feel so lonley...

Anyway, even in my country suicides at young age/13-18/ happen for similar or other reasons. Maybe the parents should have been more caring with their daughter, they should of have had stronger supervision on their little child. But typically for Japanese dads is to be working all day and have no time for their kids and her mother maybe wasn't aware of what would of have happen. Sadly the worst has happened.
Rest in peace little girl.
