Greetings and an unusual Q. 14 Years, 7 Months ago Karma: 0
Greetings ~

I have been following the videos on YouTube and have enjoyed them VERY much.

I have registered here, but have yet to post anything that came to my mind.

However, I have been curious about individuals in wheelchairs.

I sent an email, asking what the consensus is concerning handicapped individuals and wheelchair usage.
However, I was asked and directed to go to the forums, and so here I am. ~

Well, after searching through it, I saw nothing that mentioned this topic nor anything seen about this subject.

I am in a wheelchair, a Para, but have full use of everything for the exception of my legs.

So, I was rather curious how the Japanese culture felt about these type of individuals, like myself, and are they/we/I would be considered - "outcasts" - or are treated differently in some way. ~

As here in the US and from my own personal experience, its always a MAJOR factor when people meet me, because they don't want to, because of the sigma of the "chair".

It's apparent that the mental thought/consensus is that my mind is somehow also effected in disability as well as my legs.

I have been to Europe, travelled about, and some areas ARE VERY DIFFICULT to get about in, but being determined as I am, I have never seen an obsticals that I couldn't handle or overcome.

How difficult would it (actually) be to travel in Japan in a wheelchair?

Any info on this will be appreciated.

Thanks!

Respects!

Hello and welcome.

Ramps and elevators and reserved parking abound in Japan so access is pretty good.

As for attitude... foreigners tend to attract attention here.. so standing or sitting shouldn't matter much
