Hi there,
I'm a subscriber to your channel for some time and have enjoyed your videos. They are interesting and very informative about Japanese topics. I have a question in relation to presenting ideas in a company setting and was hoping if you could create a video addressing the topic.
To the western world, Japan is known for their innovation in technology. When it comes to gadgets, Japanese tech firms seem to come out with sensible products that can compete globally.
My question to you is how are innovative ideas introduced and implemented when employees are too worried about being direct and thinking differently than what their group is doing? Can creative ideas be introduced when a person is indirect? From what I know, everything is group-based work in Japan and ideas are discouraged or frown upon.
When it comes to innovation and creativity, there's always an element of risk. And it is well known that the Japanese avoid risks. Some ideas could actually save the company time, money and improve process. It is also well known that the old boys upstairs do all the decision making while employees lower in the company ranks perform the tasks.
Does the kohai - sempai management style really work, especially when an innovative idea comes from a younger employee? Also is it expected for foreigners to adhere to this management style in this environment?
These questions have been on my mind for a while and I'm trying to understand Japanese business etiquette.
I'm a web developer/graphic designer from Canada and married to a Japanese national. We're living on Canadian soil but have discussions, from time-to-time, about living in Japan in the distant future.
When time permits please post a video about this topic and share your thoughts. I'm interested in what you think about it.

Wow!! Mind blown.... Japanese businesses are not actually innovative. And innovation is not admired.
The suggested video is over 5 years old but is relevant and on point. It made me rethink my business model. It's too bad that it is only advantageous for an innovative Japanese national to do business internationally than the other way around.
My Japanese wife and I will probably have a serious discussion about my earning potential in Japan.
Very useful and informative video.

Yes, unless you would be happy earning minimum money teaching English, you are most likely better off working in your home country.
