Self-Employment in Japan 12 Years, 11 Months ago Karma: 0
I've looked around the web and I can't seem to find any solid info on the subject. Could you please tell me how you would/did become Self-Employed in Japan?

By the way I would be glad if Cravez or Samurai8 could answer my question also. Thank you.

Business investor visa.
You must prove years of experience operating a successful and similar business in your own country.
You must provide a viable business plan.
You must employ at least two Japanese people.
You must prove you have the cash to do all this.

Not easy.

What about self-sponsorship?

method 1 is how most people do it:
you come to japan on a work visa (if you're a teacher) for a year. during that year you make your own school or contract yourself out to other places who pay you for your work. when you go to renew your visa you apply for it as self sponsored. this allows you to quit any full time job and removes the burden of having a company sponsor your visa. this requires a minimum monthly income of between 150,000 and 250,000yen a month (provable) to be approved.

A self sponsored work visa with no employer?

If that worked, everyone who had $20,000 in cash could come here for a year..

and if you "make your own school" the business investor visa terms apply...
