Hello everyone. (: I already know what a lot of you are going to say, "It's difficult to get jobs like that in Japan. They'll only hire you if someone Japanese can't do it.." and so on. I know it will be difficult, and I know I have slim chances. However, I personally see no harm in trying.
Anyways..
I know questions like this are asked at least once or twice a day, but please do read on. For one, I do not wish to be a mangaka. I know many ask questions on how to be a mangaka, but I don't have much interest in that. Also, (and I know someone will bring this up) I know you have to be able to speak, read, and write Japanese. I can speak to some point because my mother is fluent and she teaches me. As for writing, I know a few characters, but not nearly enough. Because of this, I enrolled in a Japanese language course. I have 5 years before I graduate college, so I have a good amount of time to study and practice. However, I know that just five years isn't enough to be native-fluent, but with the help of my mother and the school, I know I will excel greatly in the language. By then, I'm thinking I'll be business-class fluent. As for moving to Japan, I have no problems with that. I've been there a few times and I have a good amount of family there, too. So I won't be completely lost and confused.
Okay, so to the main point of this question: I wish to work in the business of manga publishing. However, I am more interested in positions in the company that include:
- being an editor
- working in the marketing department
- working in the sales department (though I hear it's similar to the marketing department)
- or the financial department (not accounting)

I know there are other positions as well, but I don't quite know of them. I want to be able to know what the different positions may be and what exactly they do in the company before I really narrow my choices and target one. I want to know what they do in their job because I know for one that being something in a manga company is very different from being the same thing in another. For example, if I were a editor for literature, the process in doing so is very different from editing a manga. The same goes for other positions.

When it comes to getting a visa or job in Japan you can apply a simple test to it to see what your chances are.

Ask yourself if there are Japanese people who can do the job as well or better than you can.

If a Japanese company can employ a Japanese person to do the job - they will.

Foreigners are lots of hassle for Japanese companies (language and culture issues) so they wont employ you unless they have to.
