Allied Health Field Careers? 14 Years, 6 Months ago Karma: 0
Hello! Brand new to the forum. Post No.1!.

I have read the thread about becoming a doctor (yes, all 2 posts!), and am anticipating a similar answer.
My situation: I am currently in a 2 year program to become a radiologic technologist. I was wondering if after I graduate and get some experience under my belt, it would be possible to work as a radiographer in Japan. Of course, seeing as it's an allied health field, my Japanese would have to be advanced. I'm thinking more in terms of being a foreigner providing health care (I've heard of the Us vs. Them mentality), and just basic tech jobs available.

If anyone has any insight, please let me know soon!

Thank you,
Melissa

It would be very unlikely, sorry

I know a Japanese radiologist, and dentist, two doctors and a guy who does something to do with implants during surgery.. and have heard a bit about the health care world here...
Combining that with the visa rules and Japanese people's attitudes about foreigners..
even if your written and spoken Japanese was perfect.. I could not imagine it ever happening.
Too many Japanese people wanting jobs like that.. and employers prefer to have Japanese staff working them because they understand what is expected of them.
If you wanted to find out if I am right or wrong, you could surf the Japan job sites (some on this page) and see what you can find.

Thank you for your response.
I was expecting that answer..
There goes one dream. hehe...
But hey, I'll just have to find another way to make a life in Japan work one day! If there's a will, there's a way. *determination*

That's the spirit!

Have you been here before?
I always encourage people who are thinking about coming here long term to spend a couple of months here first (holiday visa is 3 months) just to see what it is really like..
it can be a tough place to live..

No, I haven't been yet. I'd need to wait until after I graduate school, and wait until I can get a job and save up enough. I'm poor! But I do plan on visiting first. I've heard a lot of people that plan on living there, that can't handle it. So, when I can save up enough, and get the courage to go on my own, I definitely hope to
If you don't mind my asking, how about you? What brought you to Japan? Or were you always there?
