If you stay in a gaigin house you not only have access to cheap clean accommodation but the combined resources and experience of all the other foreigners new to Japan. I stayed in one for 3 months when I first arrived in Tokyo. I learned where to get cheap food, places to see, immigration hints, and job hunting help. Suggest K's House also in Osaka, Kyoto and Nara
