I did a homestay in Tokyo last year and I was 35. If you're looking to be immersed in Japanese culture, you really can't beat a homestay. If you're a guy, it might be a little difficult to find a place at your age, but then again I found a place with a nice young family. Google homestayweb.com, that's where I found my place.
