Starting Anew 14 Years, 11 Months ago Karma: 0
Hello Japanchannel forums . This thread will basically be my questions on moving to Japan. Before I go any further though, I'd like to add that I am 16 years old, so still in high school. This is somewhat comforting as it gives me some time to save up money and research.

After I am done University/College, I strongly desire to move to Japan. But I've heard that it is extremely expensive to live there, particularly in Tokyo.

I guess my general question for this thread would be: "What should I know and do before moving to Japan?" - but this is too broad. So here are some things I'm wondering:

-Is finding an English teaching position a good job in terms of being able to fulfill my money needs?

-Would looking and renting/buying a house before I move there be wise? The same question also applies to jobs - so looking beforehand.

-Is knowing Japanese before I get there essential to success?

-Should I participate in Homestay for a bit, and then figure out what to do about an apartment while I'm there?

I'm sorry for all the questions, but any help would be very much appreciated. Also, any further information on questions that I didn't ask, but you want to tell me, would be amazing. Thank you for your time.

Hello

Yes, you can survive on teacher money. but not save

You wont be able to rent a house here until you have a job and a Japanese person to guarantee you.

Some English schools provide accommodation.

English teachers can survive without Japanese.. but you will just end up hanging with all other foreigners if you cant speak and understand Japanese...
